Saylor Family Memorial Fund

By Robert & Margaret Saylor

Robert I. Saylor pledged the Colorado Gamma and became an active in 1922. He was only able to attend Colorado Agricultural College (now Colorado State University) for one year due to the economic conditions in the agricultural industry caused by reduction of prices following World War I. His father advised that he could only remain in school if he were able to find a job. After visiting every business in Ft. Collins and not finding work, he reluctantly returned to the family farm near Holyoke, Colorado.

Robert I. Saylor's only son was Garry B. Saylor, who was able to fulfill the dream of his father to get an education in agriculture. Garry graduated in 1958 and continued a lifelong involvement of support with the Colorado Gamma Chapter. He was serving as Alumni Board President when he was tragically killed in an automobile accident near the family farm on September 15, 1991.

The Saylor Family Memorial Fund was created by Garry’s father, Robert, and his stepmother, Margaret, in October 1992 to help each year, one deserving brother of the Colorado Gamma Chapter achieve a college education. The directive of the Saylor family is that the Scholarship be awarded to a man who cares very much about Colorado Gamma and Sigma Phi Epsilon, who is dedicated to scholastic achievement and most importantly, to someone that requires financial assistance for continued education.
