CSU/SigEp (1915 - 2014, 2018-Present)

With over 100 year history the CSU/SigEp chapter has many great traditions, events, and opportunities for members.

Events like Homecoming, Flower Dance, and more give members an opportunity to unwind after a focused week in the classroom.

Members are fortunate to be eligible for great scholarships each year from the SigEp Educational Foundation like the Saylor and Bradford Scholarships.  The Chapter works on exciting philanthropies every year that make a difference in the community,

  • 402 Remington St (1920 - 1935)

  • 121 East Lake St (1935 - date)

    • The 121 E Lake St house was built by the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity in 1929. Unfortunately, their membership dropped due to the great depression and they were forced to sell.  Sigma Phi Epsilon purchased the property in 1935.

    • Between late 1942 and February of 1945, in support of the World War II effort, the chapter house was commandeered by the US Army Air Force and occupied by the Civilian Pilot Training Students. However, the chapter was able to reserve the chapter room for its meeting  until February 1945.

    • The kitchen, house mother Suite were added on the west end of the house in 1958.

    • In 2015, after a decade of saving and fundraising, the house underwent a major restoration. The interior was stripped down to the brick and all new mechanical systems were replaced. The Jenson Family Library was constructed above the kitchen.

    • In 2016, the AVC was forced to rent the house to the Sigma Nu fraternity for three years due to the Chapter losing their Charter in 2014.

    • The Chapter recolonized in Spring 2018 and moved back into the house in the fall of 2020.

When CSU SigEp Was Chartered ...

The world was a very different place in 1915 when SigEp was chartered at Colorado State University. Below are some interesting facts and notes of what was going on in the world in 1915.

  • After a population boom that began around 1900, the population of Fort Collins reached 8,500 in 1915.

  • Babe Ruth was a standout pitcher for the Boston Red Sox during his second year in the Major Leagues. Ruth hit his first four home runs in 1915 and did not put on a Yankee uniform until 5 years later.

  • Charlie Chaplin was a new motion picture star after his first films in 1914 quickly gained popularity.

  • The RMS Lusitania was torpedoed by a German U-Boat; turning public opinion against Germany and proved to be instrumental in bringing the US into WWI.

  • There were hundreds of local time zones in the United States. The four standard time zones and daylight savings time would not be established for three more years by the Standard Time Act of 1918.
